Empyema thoracis caused by Serratia marcescens in a 2-year-old child.

چکیده

On needle aspiration, pleural fluid was viscous, for which a chest tube was inserted for drainage. Aspirated fluid was subjected to microscopic examination and culture. Gramstaining revealed many polymorphs. Patient was given i.v. amikacin and ceftazidime, but his condition did not improve. On the fifth day of admission, left thoracotomy with decortication and empyema drainage was performed. Two new chest tubes were inserted.
